*OCEANS ELEVEN -- (Magical Passes x Tet. Dragon Dreams) Sev. 5” fl. 20” sc. M. 20 buds.  I have been breeding for blue eye zones for a number of years.  Anyone working with blue eyes knows that the greatest advances in this area have been Elizabeth Salter’s small diploids.  Several of us have converted Liz’s plants in an attempt to get those “blue” genes in our tetraploid lines.  This, added to the work already completed at the tetraploid level is beginning to give us large flowered tetraploid flowers with blue eyes.  I have converted and used Liz’s Tet. In The Navy, as well as Tet. Blue Moon Rising, and have gotten a number of very exciting seedlings.  While I expected the “bluest” eyes from In The Navy, much to my surprise, the closest to navy color actually came from Tet. Dragon Dreams, producing Ocean’s  Eleven. Ocean’s Eleven has the bluest eye of any flower in our garden.  I have often described my previous introductions as having “blue violet” eyes.  I have never before used the word “navy” in describing the color of any of my cultivars.  But, to my eye, Ocean’s Eleven has an eye of dark navy blue (hence the name) with layers of charcoal, surrounded by a burgundy mascara band.  The base color is a very pleasing cream yellow.  These flowers are strongly recommended for blue eye breeding.
